Venous Return and its affects on performance

Day 11 of "Face February Fighting"

What is venous return.............?
            Blood   back (to heart)

4 methods.......

1. Skeletal Muscle Pump
2. Respiratory Muscle Pump

3. Valves in Veins to prevent backflow

4. Gravity helps in veins above the heart.

How does it affect performance?????

Well.......

Stroke volume is dependent on Venous return
so.......an increase in VR will increase SV.

It doesnt take....

to work out that

Cardiac Output = SV x HR

So any increase in SV will have to increase Cardiac Output.
Similiarly with any increase in HR too!!!!

HR increases due to the SA node firing more because of the stretch of the atrial wall with the increase in VR.

If the atrial walls are stretched more then so will the ventricle walls so more blood is pumped out per beat............. SV!!!!!!!
